... factors. I also am sick of the bugs and showers and heat and sweat. ( bikram, you've got nothing on the DR). It's been unstoppable heat, with not a drop of rain this week. The kids have come to rely on my motherliness, hitting me up for advice on earaches, rashes, soreness, female issues, communicating with parents, and other little difficulties that feel big after being a way so long. One artist/vendor gave me a henna tattoo as a sample, a lovely mariposa. We ran into him afterwards at an ice cream shop and I bought him an ice cream as a thank you. The genuine thanks we both felt for the generosity the other shared held no air of condescension, or awkwardness, ...

Otto and I had arranged for music, dancing, and cake as well. Then seņor Bro told us the traditional parts of a real quincianera, and the kids decided to enact it the next day.

The Dominican kids clearly look up to them and they direct with a mixture of love and discipline that is very genuine and familial. The American born leaders Miss Morgan, seņor Braun, and Jill from K-U, are all at the top of their game making this a trip with so few problems or glitches that I don't want to even mention it for fear of jinxing us.
