... King of Navarre from 1402-1424. During the War of Independence in 1813, the palace was deliberately set on fire by the Navarre General to prevent the French from taking control of the site. The reconstruction organization started in 1923 and the building started in 1937 and lasted for 30 more years. There was also a beautiful church attached to the Palace. ... must be way off....the poor shopkeeper got it in the end...but only after I gave a mimed version of tilting at windmills! All that...and he didn't have any. I'll keep looking. So a wonderful day and night in Madrid. I've got the air conditioning on in my room. Off on a bus trip to Toledo tomorrow ...then afternoon and evening free of planned activities.
