We had a full day to explore all of Luebeck. Most of the medieval sights are withing walking distance of the hotel so we made a nice day seeing lots of them. We first went to St. Jacobs Church, but it was closed for a "divine service" so we only saw the outside. Looked like they were having a Saturday morning wedding from the way the people going …

The ship docked earlier than scheduled, and we left the ship shortly after 11 a.m. There was a long line of taxis waiting on the dock. After a twenty minute ride to the airport, we found the Avis counter and got the keys to the car—an upgrade to a Mercedes E class station wagon. Philip felt comfortable driving it, and we were ready to get …

... three rear), the Polish train had eight seats crammed into a space where everyone else put six maximum. The next five hours was a test of endurance, but we persevered. Relishing the opportunity to change trains in Szczecin (the former German city of Stettin) to get out of our crowded nightmare, we were surprised that our new train was a two-car regional train. We were just settling in when a German couple advised us that there was track ...

... not!!!!!!!!!! Anyway , it was a little frustrating but we got the gist. It is on the Elbe river and is a Unesco world heritage site. It is bigger than I thought and is quite busy, once again lovely little cobblestone lanes, beautiful churches and much of it bombed and rebuilt. We went into one church where the crypt was a dedication to the 4 priests that were executed ...

The next morning, we drove from Hamburg to Lübeck, where my great-aunt lives. We went for a walk through the city but it was very cold, so we had to go to a cafe soon.
Later we met my aunt at the Niederegger shop, which is a very famous German Marzipan manufacturer. We stepped in for a coffee and extremely delicious cakes and bought some of the famoues Lübeck Marzipan specialities as a souvenir.
Then we continued our journey to Schwerin.

We stayed at the Hotel Anno 1216 for two nights and had a great stay. We had the suite just off the lobby with the Baroque painted stucco ceiling. The suite is just gorgeous with three huge windows that open onto a lovely patio. When we arrived we were met by an English-speaking gentleman who checked us in, showed us to and around our suite, suggested a better place to park, and helped with the luggage when we returned with it. He suggested some great restaurants then made the reservations for us. He also fixed and served our breakfast the next two mornings. Service could not have been better! I highly recommend the Hotel Anno 1216 in Luebeck.
