Driving the Autobahn
The ship docked earlier than scheduled, and we left the ship shortly after 11 a.m. There was a long line of taxis waiting on the dock. After a twenty minute ride to the airport, we found the Avis counter and got the keys to the car—an upgrade to a Mercedes E class station wagon. Philip felt comfortable driving it, and we were ready to get …
Queen of the Hanseatic League
We had a full day to explore all of Luebeck. Most of the medieval sights are withing walking distance of the hotel so we made a nice day seeing lots of them. We first went to St. Jacobs Church, but it was closed for a "divine service" so we only saw the outside. Looked like they were having a Saturday morning wedding from the way the people going …
A Short Hop up the Coast
A week today it will be our last night in Germany for this year. This is quite a sad thought but made easier when it is grey, spitting with rain and windless as it was today.
Julie decided to have one more go with the cheap (€2) washing machine, getting her fleeces, which are numerous and well used, washed. Once done, at around 10:00, we cast off and headed out of ...
A Lazy Day
... is really a very nice harbour. It is interesting, with lots going on and it is has a nice mixture of industrial and commercial property, with cafes, restaurants and bars on the waterfront. It is also inexpensive (€15/night) with lovely clean facilities and with free wifi, in fact they provide you with a week’s access to the ubiquitous Lan-1 network, ubiquitous in that every marina hereabouts provides it. The ...
Great Sailing
... her on board CW again next year.
We were keen to sail and the forecast on YR was for maximum wind speeds of 8m/s (18mph) from the SW. I didn’t bother checking the other sites as we were only travelling about 9 miles. As it happened, it was a very exciting 9 miles, as the wind when we were out in the Bucht was not 18mph but a far more feisty 30mph ie a Force 7. Moreover, rather than it being an exhilarating ...

TravelPod Member ReviewsHotel Anno 1216 Lübeck
We stayed at the Hotel Anno 1216 for two nights and had a great stay. We had the suite just off the lobby with the Baroque painted stucco ceiling. The suite is just gorgeous with three huge windows that open onto a lovely patio. When we arrived we were met by an English-speaking gentleman who checked us in, showed us to and around our suite, suggested a better place to park, and helped with the luggage when we returned with it. He suggested some great restaurants then made the reservations for us. He also fixed and served our breakfast the next two mornings. Service could not have been better! I highly recommend the Hotel Anno 1216 in Luebeck.
