Note from Val: Today we took a guided tour into the mountains east of the town of Obergurgl (up the Gaisbergferner glacier valley) to search for garnets. We were well equipped for the task, with our hammer and chisel borrowed from our hotel. We were given a complete equipement : thick wetsuit -together with socks - which reassured me as I thought water was possibily snow melting down - helmet, harness and snap hooks. Stefan explained how to abseil and made us try on a wooden wall.
