Start of my tour of Salar de Uyuni
First problem, the bank have put a stop on my credit card, and with only one ATM in town, I am screwed. Thankfully for Sophie who I have been travelling with for a week now, she has been able to lend me money to do the tour for the next four days.
This is an amazing tour of south west Bolivia. We see inactive and semi active volcanoes, …
Saddlin' up in Tupiza
The area surrounding Tupiza, in southern Bolivia, could come straight out of the American Southwest -- brightly colored rocky hillsides, jagged formations, and strange looking badlands in all directions. It's also where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, two robbers a la the Wild West, were reputedly killed after robbing a payroll. There's a movie …
Tupiza ....Yee Haw!
Arriving in Tupiza at around 10am we are reasonably well slept after again going for 1st class on the train and greeted by a lovely sunny morning and a town which is beautiful and somewhere we are thinking will suit us very well. Its set right in basin of tremendous mountains and rock faces with a very sleepy feel to it. Our hostel is more like a …
Hunting for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
And onto Tupiza! A town that is most famous for being the final haunt of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, we were killed 100 years ago in the nearby town of San Vicente. Those of you that have witnessed myself and Wheeler at fancy dress parties over the years will know that this would be a place close to my heart...

Tupiza or not Tupiza?
Finally Bolivia, the country we most looked forward to discover. We were warned about the extreme cultural differences we were about to encounter but I never thought such diversity would had the power of a punch in your face as soon as crossing the border from Argentina.
We had to do so by walking over the bridge from La Quiaca (Argentina …

Better than average included breakfast (bread, jam, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee) and great room. Had a single with bathroom for 70 bolivianos and it was well worth it. Good-as-everyone-else travel agency downstairs as well.

La Torre is basic accommodation, but good for Tupiza standards. They have a communal kitchen (although garlic and onions are not allowed!!!)and breakfast is included. The staff is nice and they also are very knowledgeable about the Salar de Uyuni tour. We booked our tour through them for a reasonable price and had a great time. The guide and the cook we traveled with were lovely and we'd recommend this tour to others.

This was the first hostel we stayed at in Bolivia. With fears of cold showers, cockroaches and filthy rooms drilled in to our heads we didn't expect too much. What we certainly didn't expext was the exact opposite. Whoever told us these thing things about Bolivia hadn't been here for a very long time. We were greeted with a warm welcome and good English. The place was very clean with hot showers and even the breakfast was reasonable. All this at a very, very good price. In fact we payed around 50 Bs for a double room. You can even book all your tours here at competetive prices. To read more about Bolivian adventures, and others, please visit http://travelpod.com/members/dae7

Splashed out on a twin room with a friend and got a very decent hotel room with ensuite and cable tv. The room was spotlessly clean.

OK and clean hostel but pretty demanding. Early arrivals require 50% of the room rate (many other places do not demand this) and they don´t like you to change your mind at all. Don´t like that you take a tour with a company other than theirs and can basically be a bit stroppy.
