This hotel was fine, and the only thing I could find at short notice, although if I had of walked the town, I'm sure there were other options. I had a room to myself with en-suite, which was quite a luxury. Although there was a large window in the room that was visible from those opposite when I had the light on at night, lacking privacy. There price on Hostelbookers is higher than the actual price, so beware. Also when I returned for a second, unexpected night, and was put in the same room, the sheets had not been changed. I know this as I had spilled some shampoo on them earlier and the marks were still there. Breakfast was good and the tours are similar in price to others.

Fairly central location. Clean room with shared bathroom which lacked 24-hour hot water. Average breakfast (rocks for rolls!) Helpful staff with tour agency on site.
      B$100 per night.

Better than average included breakfast (bread, jam, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee) and great room. Had a single with bathroom for 70 bolivianos and it was well worth it. Good-as-everyone-else travel agency downstairs as well.

Good option in Tupiza for accommodation and tours

La Torre is basic accommodation, but good for Tupiza standards. They have a communal kitchen (although garlic and onions are not allowed!!!)and breakfast is included. The staff is nice and they also are very knowledgeable about the Salar de Uyuni tour. We booked our tour through them for a reasonable price and had a great time. The guide and the cook we traveled with were lovely and we'd recommend this tour to others.

      Quality at value

This was the first hostel we stayed at in Bolivia. With fears of cold showers, cockroaches and filthy rooms drilled in to our heads we didn't expect too much. What we certainly didn't expext was the exact opposite. Whoever told us these thing things about Bolivia hadn't been here for a very long time. We were greeted with a warm welcome and good English. The place was very clean with hot showers and even the breakfast was reasonable. All this at a very, very good price. In fact we payed around 50 Bs for a double room. You can even book all your tours here at competetive prices. To read more about Bolivian adventures, and others, please visit http://travelpod.com/members/dae7

Splashed out on a twin room with a friend and got a very decent hotel room with ensuite and cable tv. The room was spotlessly clean.

      stroppy staff

OK and clean hostel but pretty demanding. Early arrivals require 50% of the room rate (many other places do not demand this) and they don´t like you to change your mind at all. Don´t like that you take a tour with a company other than theirs and can basically be a bit stroppy.

I booked a bus from Uyuni to Tupiza, the only one I could find. After getting up at 5am to catch it, I was nicely ensconced on the front seat of the coach, forgetting there were assigned seats. A couple of Dutch girls reminded me so I went to find seat number 21. A lady was already there and when we compared tickets she said I was with the other …

We arrived in la Quiaca at 7am on Saturday morning which is the border town in Argentina and gateway to Bolivia. A lot of backpackers got off the bus and we were all waiting around in the bus station trying to get warm. It turned out that everyone was waiting for someone else to make the first move so one Dutch girl went up to a desk and found out …

Breakfast was basic but good, we had freshly squeezed orange juice, yoghurt, bananas and bread rolls with some good coffee. It was enough to fill us up and get out the door to have a wander round the Saturday market.

Today's market was an outdoor one and reputedly much larger than the daily one. We assumed that the market would start …

We were up and had to leave before breakfast started at the Koala Den. We needed to be at Potosi's bus terminal for 7:30am so we just checked out and asked for a taxi to be called to pick us up. The driver who came for us was a complete ass. To begin with he told us the fare would be Bs.40 for the four of us whereas it should only be Bs.5-6 per …

From Humahuaca it was a relatively short bus ride to La Quiaca (Balut, 2h, ARS40) on the border with Bolivia. In La Quiaca we wandered down to the border post, got stamped out of Argentina, walked 5m and got stamped into Bolivia. On the Bolivian side the town is called Villazón, and from the border it's a 10 minute walk up the hill to the bus …
