... cities along the Camino de Santiago Frances route. It's a charming city dominated by the world heritage listed cathedral which sends it's fine detailed white spires high into the blue skies. It's a great city in which to stroll or hire a bike. The old city has many buildings of historical interest and many lanes lined with shops, restaurants and bars. The Rio runs just outside of the old town and through ...

    First day off!

There is something about the pace of walking or biking that enables you to connect with and experience a place on a more intimate level than a vehicle allows. So off to mass I shall go!

... to Tardajos then walk the 21km to Hontanas. Anne took a taxi to give her calf and shin splint a rest. This turned out to be a smart move as there is no way Anne would have made the journey with the hills, wind and mud. Lari, Nelly, Monika and I made good time to Hornillos del Camino for brunch.

The hills up to just before San Bol were mere pups to the ones we have encoutered before. Then came the long hard slog through about ...

    The long walk into Burgos

Today felt long for several reasons: first, our itinerary had said it was 22 kms, but for some reason our notes only say 16, so we set off thinking "easy"...but it turned out to be at least 22 kms or more. Second, after a very lovely early part of the walk, which we started very early - 7.30 am - as our hotel didn't do breakfast (gave us a picnic bag of very mediocre fare!) we had a very long walk through the ...
