*****Pics for Nha Trang entry have been uploaded!******* - Losha finally figured out the fast uploader vs. the slower - whoops...
The backpacking distrcit of Saigon is a crazy mix of Vietnamese people and foreigners. Everywhere you go in this area you are constantly bombarded by "Buy this"... "Come into my store"..."Do you want marijuana? Cocaine? Ecstasy?"..."Want you want Madame?"...We finally figured out that if you say "Khawm" - which means No in Vietnamese, they stop asking immedi...

... for you. It was really hot down there and at times we had to crawl on our hand and knees. We came out absolutely drenched!

While at the site of the tunnels we had the opportunity to shoot some guns! Luke chose a M16 (US issued) and I chose a M54 hand gun. My god, I never realised how loud or powerful a gun was! We weren't exactly given the best ear muffs either...they were more like headphones. But the ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam kimandluke... direction as it does a loop...

So there I was, very proud of myself for being on the right bus, having bought a ticket for 3000D even though the conductor looked at me a bit dubiously (I just thought we had a communication problem, I didn't realise that he was wondering why the heck I'd want to go to the place he knew the bus was going!)..and I sat back to enjoy the journey. It turned out to be a longer ride ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam freetofly... weird!
As the tide dropped we had to move to smaller 2-3 person boats to continue round the canals as it was too shallow for our previous boat.
It then got dark so we had to walk for about 20 mins in the ******* down rain to our homestay.
The homestay was great - they put on a little Vietnamese show for us with a local band which was hilarious even though we didn't know what they were saying.
Our group then had a quiz night and a few ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam chopper_and_kat... then a couple of women. After yet another boat ride, our next stop was the coconut candy factory. We were given a demonstration of the entire coconut candy process as well as a delicious, warm free sample. Everyone was encouraged to buy as many packages of the candy as possible. I purchased two, a peanut one (the one we sampled) and a banana nut one. Unfortunately I didn't like the banana nut version, but met a woman on the boat home that offered to trade her chocolate version (our ...
HCMC, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam karkade... not the best conditions to sit on a boat for 3 hours.... then a bus for hours... we left the island about noon and got to Bangkok about 6am....

So from the original gang there was 6 of us who headed to Bangkok, we messed about for about 3 hours sorting rooms out and waiting to check-in and finally we all got sleep for a few hours. Then of course in true group style we got back on the beer and rum buckets.... Karina hadn't been to Bangkok before so I took her on a girls night out to ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam heledd... ghetto that is Pham Ngu Lao St. Before we agreed I asked one of the other tourists where we were exactly. Turns out we were on Pham Ngu Lao st. Welcome to Vietnam!
We ditch the oh so kind taxi driver and start walking to find a hotel. I got one for $15 which is ridiculous considering I spent 50 cents in Laos but at least it included a/c and breakfast.
Money is flying out of my wallet like its got some disease that repels it.

The next day we ...
HCMC, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam travelbug15... they had left it the same as it was in 1975 i believe when the war end. However the tanks in the grounds were models and most the rooms inside had been altered. The rooms in the basement had been left though with lots of radio and communication equipment. After that we went to the war museum that made us all depressed but like a lot of the stuff we've seen it isn't nice but you need to see it. The outside of the museum was similar to the museum in hanoi, with old tanks etc ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam banj... day and am ready to get out of the city and head to the coast. So, after only two nights I'm off to the beach at Mui Ne. I splurged a bit here and got a hotel with hot water AND a/c. Maid service comes in every day to make my bed and bring clean towels...the life! I figured I could afford the $13USD per night for only a few nights. Why not treat myself to the first hot shower I've had since Europe? Don't get me wrong ...
