The Cass RR had Shay Steam Engines powered by coal. Shays have vertical pistons to enable them to have the power they need for steep grades. One of the grades we did was 11%. You guys, I LOVE skiing! We had a group breakfast, graciously cooked by Dana and Daniel; before heading over to Timberline to ski. There were four new skiiers in the group so we headed straight to the bunny slopes. I made it on and off the ski lift without falling: step one!
