As a group we agreed to spend a free morning doing a quick nip to Paraguay which was only half hour to the boarder. It ticked the box but was essentially just a shopping trip.

Paraguay is meant to be the cheapest country in S America for electronics etc so some of the group bought some bits. As you walk along the street people start off offering you electrics, followed by marihuana ...

... involved a large fire before heading of to the other side of the Misiones Province for some more waterfalls! South towards the Brazilian border and a small frontier town called El Soberbio. Jesus these places are weird and this one gets the title of 'the most ugly people in South America'. Odd I have been surrounded but Latin American beauties for so long and here the population look almost English, pale and pasty (god knows why), wearing shellsuits ...

... where the maté is passed round to each person. The Yerba maté Estancia was owned by the lovely Mario who welcomed us onto the ranch and showed us around the maté plantation as well as walking us through the maté leaf drying process. The whole ranch had a great yerba maté smell and we spent the evening playing an Argentinian version of Yahtzee with Mario and Alex by the fire.

The weather was still fine and so we decided to visit the other falls in Missiones as well: The Moconá falls of the river Uruguay. The road to the falls was as nice as the falls itself - windy and the the top of the hills at a lot of scenic views on the rain forst and rivers.
It was really hot that afternoon and we welcomed the wet boat trip to the falls.

... were closed for traffic and they became a long corridor of outdoor cafes, street vendors and just tons of people. Posadas is across the river from Encarnation, a town in Paraguay. I later found out that this was carneval weekend in Paraguay, and given that Encarnation is much smaller than Posadas, everyone from Paraguay crosses the border into Argentina and comes to ...
