... a beautiful old town on the lake. It was tricky to find somewhere to park but we decided to try the chairlift car park in Obertraun. We walked back to Hallstatt, about 40mins, and looked through town. We stopped at the Skull house where they keep old skulls that have been removed from their graves. It was strange but interesting! By time we got back to the van we unpacked our packs, cooked up some dinner and went to ...

They explain how they mine the salt. There use to be a salt water ocean 14 million years ago that evaporated ...

... so we've been seeing lots of amazing planes fly over the town and lake. Some big bombers, little Mustangs. Lots of fun.

We returned to our room for our picnic. It's still hot here, so we're enjoying getting out of the heat in the midday. We rested for a bit, then Cheryl drove Josie to the Spar for a few items she had requested.

After our midday break, we returned to the lake for tubing. It was ...

... we caught a different bus to take us up to the Eagle's Nest. The scenery was stunning and the kids were being troopers even though they were pretty bored, hot and tired of the whole thing.

At the base of the Eagle's Nest, we walked through a long tunnel, then took the elevator (all 35 of us) up to the three rooms of the Eagle's Nest. Kind of like an elaborate ski hut, as all of the furniture is gone. However, the view was stunning, sitting perched ...
