... superlatives bandied about by tourism-department officials. Hotels, restaurants and shops are crowded along the beach like spice shops in a Middle Eastern bazaar, and vendors selling watches, sunglasses, jewellery and boat trips do pester you like flies on honey. We stopped for a ‘comfort stop’ briefly, where a huge satellite and cable tower, partially obscured by low cloud, was foreshadowed by a huge statue of the Virgin Mary sitting just in front. Looking totally out of place, the whole scene was made to look even more farcical with hens ...

... But when the beach is 10 meters from your door, one does not spend too much time in the hotel room.
The first 2 days it rained and it was very windy. Janice did warn us that we were visiting during stormy season. It was warm and humid enough to walk the length of White Beach afew times, but not quite warm enough for me to be in the water and lay out on the beach. Didn't stop me having a swim, though.
We walked in the rain, and I ...
