... of one. We discussed and although we'd have to sacrifice pool, went for the first option. We were taken personally by the general manager who throughout the day had been really helpful and accommodating before checking in to our new digs - the room arguably nicer than the first! With a minibar for our beers and plenty of cable channels we watched a film and drank a beer before crossing the road to get some food from a street corner. We didn't really know what we were ordering ...

It felt like I was in the real 'Asia'. 2 hours later the car just stopped at a cross roads and the driver shouted 'bus to lumbar' that was me! I jumped out of the car and couldn't see a bus anywhere. Rather hesitantly I headed to am old white minibus, who confirmed he was the bus, or I had the choice of a taxi. I took the taxi only to realise it was in fact a motorbike. The driver but my backpack ...

      ... more co-operative moments.

After lunch at the always-enjoyable Nilom, we returned to the homestay to escape the heat. This plan was scuppered when the air-con (and everything else) was knocked out by a power cut and our room quickly became hotter than outside. So we went for a walk instead, starting in the island’s interior and passing palm ...
