          One tidbit - everyone of the hundreds of Belgium beers has its own glass. For one of the beers, the glass costs €20, & to stop the uni students pinching them, they introduced a deposit of a shoe to buy this beer!

          ... are more like your vet school. They accept all students after high school, but if you can't hack the first three years you cannot move on. It was quite interesting to hear how different it was, and for us hoping for vet school, we were wondering why we don't just go to Belgium. Unfortunately, the University of Ghent is not an accredited vet school in the United States. Otherwise, I would be going to Belgium for three years to get my DVM.

          ... br> UNESCO has named Ghent as a "Creative City of Music". There was a free jazz concert outside at the city pavilion that night which I enjoyed.

          The next day was a public holiday, similar to Labour Day, and the city was deserted until the afternoon. Most of the shops were closed apart from tourist places and eateries. I toured the three towers: St Nicholas's Church, the Belfry and Saint Bravos ...
