On the road again
... the driver didn't mind, because we pulled the same stunt again on Sunday night with the same bajaj. It was a great night: meeting very nice new people, laughing a lot and ending up at Eastern Promise where a live band was performing. On Saturday we had to get up at half past 5, which was rather painful due to lack of sleep and the rain falling steadily, to catch the speedboat (1.5 hrs, 85 km into the Java Sea) to Pulau Macan, one of the 1000 ...
Holy Bat Cave Batman!
... push it out, Paul supervised. I did mention to Paul while I was eating mystery foods out of baggies today that he gets to dig my hole when dysentery sets in 1/2 way through the trek.

Gunung Ijen actually means ‘lonely mountain’ so we went to give it some company, and of course to see the main attraction, the enormous turquoise sulphur lake some 200 metres down below the volcano’s sheer crater walls.
The hike up was challenging and took about an hour and a half. ...
Hanging around in Bukit Luwang
... waters of the falls. After a swim and waterfall massage, we stopped for lunch and then tubed in tandom the half hour trip down the turbulent river, back to the village. This was a great end to the trip, as we could sit back and look at the rainforest towering either side of us.
Following our return, we realised that the experience of being dry was to elude us further. NOTHING dries in the rainforest. We managed to find one set of relatively dry clothes and ...
