Nothing special today. I just took a long train ride of seven hours from Solo to Malang. Good time to read and chill a bit. During dinner I'm amazed again how much good food you get for less than one swiss franc... The place I stay in is quite funny: super old grandma style furniture and the room smells of mothballs. Ah and a small detail: ...

... sulphur gas coming from inside the crater and the amount of touristic activity began to increase (a huge number of Jeeps were waiting at the bottom). Dodging the numerous horses that we being forced to run up the steep slopes carrying tourists in the morning sun, by 9am the temperature must have been pushing 30 degrees, we carried on up to the summit of the active Mount Bromo which had last erupted in 2009. So, what now?

A 5 hour drive to Kalibaru, to visit the coffee plantations and our final stop before heading to Bali!

... done. We trekked for 8 hours...which was 'worth it' because we saw the orangutans so close. Maybe a metre or so away, just incredible. The orangutan rehabilitation program has resulted in their numbers being 6,000 strong, more of them than people here in Bukit Lawang. That evening we stayed in the jungle for the night, we had some jungle rice and jungle tea. Bit dubious as to what constitutes something being 'jungle' but I decided to go with it. ...

... just swinging upside down, we must have been watching them for over an hour! After we eventually managed to climb back up we headed off again continuing the trek. Although it was hard it was so beautiful seeing some of the trees and how the routes have weaves together over years, we also climbed down to a few streams and they were really pretty's just the climbing back up that not so pretty! After walking since 9am we stopped around midday for some fruit, and they ...
