Lovely La Serena Quirky Valparaiso!

Pisco is a bit like vodka - brutal as a shot but alright with mixer especially in the famous Pisco sour which is made with lime, syrup and egg and is really good (and popular) everywhere I went. I also climbed up to the Cerro the de la Virgen, a surreal open air church at the top of a hill just north ...

... price as the dorm. Also it could have been worse. There were a group of Brits in the hostel who had been stranded in La Serena for over a week. Their friend had got a kidney infection that became so bad she had to be hospitalized. I think we got off lightly in comparison. Finally, after 6 days in La Serena we departed and took a bus to San Pedro de Atacama: land of the mystical Atacama Desert (the driest desert in the world), volcano strewn mountain chains and geysers.
