... Oh, and there's a park bench! As soon as I cross the "border", there's a park bench sitting all by itself in the middle of nowhere, put there, I assume, just for me and my guitar.

Thank you, Switzerland. You're always prepared for everything. I take a quick video clip, then head down the mountain.

The view is beautiful, but I must admit, my climb UP to the pass on the Italian side was much more amazing then the climb down on the Swiss side. I ...

... sunlight doesn't last for very long in this gorge. I go around a bend and there's a surprising sight: a completely abandoned village. All the houses are in ruins--only the little chapel is still standing, with some flowers in the window, perhaps still visited by the former inhabitants of the village. What happened? ... trying to destroy the Muslim Brotherhood after they were legitimately elected by the people?" People can look at the same conflict and come to completely opposite conclusions. My guess is that the truth is somewhere in the middle... We chat a bit more, I tell him of some of my adventures wandering the Nile delta... then I continue on my way. I love how my travels become so interconnected... my Alps hike is now connected with my Egypt adventure of ...

Day 274 1 hr, 1 km With the steep, wooded mountainside to my left and a valley that is quickly narrowing to my right it's only a few hundred meters and I'm in the next town, Messe. I know that the uphill climb is getting close, including my big goal: to cross the Splugenpass from Italy to Switzerland on foot. I know it was just planted here for the warm months, but seeing a banana tree in someone's yard just feels really unappropriate. C'mon folks, this is the ...
