... water on the camera lens.

The weather compromised the tour but it made for more dramatic shots near the water's edge. There were signs in French for most of the main structures so I tended to hang back for photo ops. The weather kept most of the locals away.

Near the House of the Frescoes was a little cat. I was talking to it. Rafik came up to me and mentioned he had read a book 'The Man Who Talks To Cats', asking if I was that chap. I mentioned my ...

Today, 9/22, we left Algeria and flew to Rome. Yesterday was spent touring Algiers with the focus on the famous Casbah. The Casbah was originally a fortress that morphed into a residential area with tiny passageways and long stairways on the side of the hill. Our State Dept. recommends not going to the area because of possible danger, but we went as group accompanied by our ...

We got a glimpse of downtown Algiers last night. After dinner downtown we spent a little time in the main square surrounded by large classical buildings built during the period of French control that ran from around 1830 until the Algerians won their independence in 1962 after a brutal 8year rebellion. The square was brightly lit with a lot people enjoying the evening despite a mild rain ...
