This week in particular, I ve been helping at a shelter for girls who have been sexually abused and have become pregnant. Its a strong cry to my past clinical experiences. Except here, instead of having social workers, mental health professionals or others on staff, theres a doctor, a social worker and a few tutors and a few volunteers. Except the doctor is a veterinary doctor, the tutors are really just people that help keep order in the class and the rest are people ...
Chincha Alta, Ica, Peru bsuarezIt's only been a few days into my volunteership but I can easily say
that I'm already enjoying it and do not regret it at all. This weekend
I pretty much did a lot of playing with kids as well as a bit of
research into selfesteem and antiviolence programs. (btw psychologists
- any info you can provide will be much appreciated) the house I'm
staying at is pretty much the only community ...

We worked in teams cutting into the side of a hill with pickaxes and spades so that someone could build a new house, we used sledghammers and jackhammers to remove ...
Pisco, Peru theblakes... boat to view the Ballestas Islands (reported as being the poor mans Galapagos). The islands are home to thousands and thousands of birds, as well as a few sea lions. We saw more boobies... not the blue footed variety, Cormorants and my favourite penguins!

After this we carried on to a winery, that produces award winning Pisco. We had a tour and had chance to taste various varieties of the drink. Jon´s ...

El Carmen, Ica, Peru edgar_betania... this after Phil and Jen did handstands in
the empty pool and came out covered in blue paint. Ica is also know
for its huge sand dunes, located around the nearby oasis of
Huacachina, the dunes are perfect for sandboarding, therefore half
the group went off to do that.

We left Ica at 4pm and continued on to Pisco, which is a small port town
renowned for its production of Pisco—the white grape bandy produced
in the region. Pisco, Peru vicksterboorman... middle of a shanty town. We both felt fear I think but you have to trust. We have quickly adapted to the lifestyle and settled into our new life. It is strange to think that our address changes ev**y few days. The freedom is amazing. Once again we w**e blessed with our Hostel, clean sheets, soap, hot wat** and we even managed to bart** the price down! Imagine trying to do that in the UK!! Our confidence is building with this, and can usually bart** rooms down....and ...
Pisco, Ica, Peru shellbell84After surviving our sanddunes, we opted for a sedate boat ride off the coast of Pisco, on our way up to Lima.
Pisco had a 8.0 earthquake in 2007, and the makeshift housing estates showed that it hasn´t come a long way since. The residents are starting to protest against the governments lack of support.

We jumped on a boat (skippered by Jesus, who is a frequent character in this part of the world, particularly in teh tourism industry we´ve found ...
Pisco, Peru colleensouness... a brass band and do the goose step. The uniforms very bright red and blue. Unfortunately security close off the road and you watch it through the bars, but some of the group went on Sunday and they walked around a part of the square.
