Rock-cut Tombs and a Deep Valley
Our arrival into Amasya was unexpectedly bumpy. The overnight bus from Trabzon was scheduled to reach Amasya at 6:00 a.m. in the morning, but arrived a full hour ahead of time and deposited us in the city's main Otogar (bus station) about 3 kms away from the city center. As one might expect, the city was still asleep and the dolmus service (minibuses that form the core of the public transport system) had not started for the day. The few others who disembarked with ...
Samsun to Istanbul
The next morning found us returning the rental car – with the "Gas needed" symbol showing on the dashboard – to the drop off place. Not really surprisingly, the place was locked, there was no one to be found and we had 10 minutes to catch our flight back to Istanbul. We parked the

Samsun to Trabzon

The roads are pot holed and we seem to have inverted pot holes. Large sections are missing and turn to dirt track, which in the rain with a steamed up visor is a challenge.
Over the last 4 months my interaction with locals is largely dependant on ...
Merzifon - Samsun (100km)
David and I parted in rain that had started just after we broke camp. It continued until I reached Havza at about 11am. I ducked into a lokanta for an Iskembe soup followed by Kuru Fasulye (Baked Beans) with a mountain of bread. It costs about 7TL.
The rain had stopped when I left and I climbed steadily up to 900m before sailing down into Kavak for another meal. This time I had Paça ...
