... two parks I hadn't been to before (Tsar Simeon's Garden and Dondukova Gradina Park) and I sat down to rest in the pedestrian square with the Roman stadium remains and Dzhumaya Mosque. 'Spring' from 'The Four Seasons' was playing out of a loudspeaker by the stadium.

... Emma and Kate packed their stuff and eventually they had to depart. I walked to the ETAP bus station to see them off on their journey back to Sofia. Ahead of them was a long overnight wait at Sofia Airport for their early-morning flight to London.

The next day they told me that although their flight had to make an unscheduled stop at Budapest Airport because another passenger had a medical emergency, they'd got home OK.

... churches both of us had seen. It was originally built back in the 14th C, but had been destroyed at some point, then rebuilt by the Soviets in the '80's. In 1985, one solo artist got inside and spent a year painting the walls with an amazing modern art version of saints, priests and sinners. Really incredible stuff to see a traditional church look so contemporary.

After a long day yesterday we got on the road this morning around 9:30 a.m. We stopped for lunch at the Etara museum outside of Gabrovo. Etara is an open air craft museum.
