... to the real point of this story.
This week (and part of last week) is the inter-hall games.
There are 5 traditional halls (1 is all women, 1 is all men and the other 3 are coed) and they all play each other in a bunch of different sports.
My friend is playing handball (which I had never heard of before in my life)
It’s soccer rules but it’s played like a mix of basketball and ultimate Frisbee.
Interesting.
I have been ...
... and our fingers to read each patient's pulse; we check respiration by watching how many times their chest rises in a minute; and we take their temperature with the thermometer.
Then, we address the basic daily needs of certain patients. No one told me as we entered each room what specific ailments i would see. The first man we treated had his leg wrapped thick in gauze and cotton wrap. he sat on his bed, resting his foot in a bucket while we used another bucket ...
... castle (also known as the slave dungeons) and go on a canopy walk. Let's just say this didn’t work out. Nei left everyone with my roommate Brad, and we somehow borrowed a locals phone to call Nei. Once getting a hold of him we found out where he was and he talked to a taxi driver who was with us. After getting directions all 8 of us piled into a small taxi. Then in the middle of an intersection half of us had to jump out and get ...

Also, walking is pretty good exercise when you do it for an hour or so at a time (which i did twice today when i was bored...walking 45 minutes burns about 180 calories for my weight--i found that on this cool site http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/c bc) and it kills a lot of time in the process (which also helps out a lot on days when i dont have class).
Aside from that, something that has also put ...
... unless I am sure that our water situation is worse than the ghanaian dorms on campus.
so far, it seems like UGH has done as much as it can to give us international comforts (like an internet cafe in the dorm and wireless in our rooms!), so I don't want to come across as ungreatful by complaining about something that most Ghanaians live without on a daily basis. The typical Ghanaian household doesn't even have flushing toilets or running water, so I think that ...
... awaken by the sound of thumping music from the market across the street-maybe because it is Sunday? We started the day with a run for 5 people in the group (me, Kayleigh my roommate, Matt her friend from home, Jordan, and Leslie who volunteered with me at TABLE back in Chapel Hill).
Then during the day we split up after and half of us (Catherine, Kas, Katie, Mike, Matt) and I went to LaBadi and the rest stayed here and went to the internet cafe. Labadi is the closest ...
It finally hit me last night while I was sitting on the beach with a couple of be**s, surrounded by African rastafarians beating drums that I was actually in Africa!!! It has been a week since I landed in Accra last Saturday, and things sure have been int**esting :)
I spent most of last week on the road with the entrepreneur of a cook stove business, Toyola En**gy that I’m working with in Ghana. The company makes cook stoves from scrap metal and ...
... drummers all started piling into the Dagomba Chief’s house, but they told everybody to get out. Then they invited me back in, lol. I met the Chief, they told me to have a seat, they gave me some cold water. It was awesome. The house is beautiful. Then they asked me if I was tired and if I wanted a break from playing. I told them that I was not tired, and that I just wanted to keep on playing, so they said I could go outside and continue playing with the group. We played for ...
Medie, Accra, Ghana neilisSarah and I are now holed up in Accra, the rath** smelly, sprawling, busy, noisy, and und**whelming capital city of Ghana. We've been in Ghana for about a week now and it5 is a beautiful country with a v**y diff**ent culture to that of Burkina Faso, Mali, or Mauritania...probably a left ov** from the British colonialism when compared to the French I guess. Let me go back to all that has happened since our last entry in Ouagadougou: 1) We left Ouaga with Gary (kind of tour trip lead ...
Accra, Ghana sabenafrica... to and we could provide it as a tool for community development and enrichment. I set about organising the team and we held a number of trials for the team. After selecting the initial team we selected a squad who would play for our team and we trained nearly every morning at 6am and then again in the evening such was the love for football from the players. I took on the coaching role for the club but also got involved with playing as well because I love to keep fit ...
