The hotel was fairly dated but clean and the rooms not massive but big enough. Ok hotel- you get what you pay for. Staff very friendly. Short walk up a hill from the harbour (not even 5 mins away). If went again would probably choose a hotel on the seafront though overlooking the harbour.

    Cat Ba Island

A travel blog entry by samnphil on Nov 26, 2013

We arrived in Cat Ba island in the afternoon after taking 3 buses and a boat from Hanoi (just over a 4 hour trip), not too bad of a journey. The island was very quiet and not many people around. Our hotel was a short 5 minute walk uphill from the fishing pier.

The hotel was quite dated but very adequate for what we had paid and the staff …

Woke up at around 10:00 which was nice to have a bit of a lie in! We decided that we were going to go kayaking so we headed out and looked for the best trip. We managed to find a trip which was leaving at 11:30 to go kayaking around ha long bay with a company called Asia outdoors. We sorted out our bags and met again at 11:30 at the Asia outdoors …

Thousands of chocolate drop limestones Karsts rise from the water, their circumference fishing villages afloat. Junk boats relay between kayak stop, floating restaurant's and Halong and Hai Phong Town's.

... said that she had a rubbish time at the cave. She said that the whole thing was a bit rushed like the hill we climbed and that doing something without me made it not nearly as fun. Plus she had to explain to everyone else where I was and that then put a downer on the morning when everyone sort of paired off and she was with the guide from the ship.

I managed to sleep most of the time that she was gone and somehow wasable to get out of bed for breakfast but only wanted ...

    Mega Water Falls!

... as big as a peanut. The water falls were amazing especially with the sound of the jungle around us. We ate our food on banana leaves which was cool because you could literally launch your plate over your head when you were done. We got to a couple of bamboo lodges where a couple lived next to the river. Once again we had no ...
