... been having a few issues with the drug cartel, but the vigilantes and federales have really been doing a good job of removing the crooked politicians, and other bad guys. We saw several vigilantes that had set up check stops, but had no issues getting up the Michocan coast. They may have been afraid of our water gun / shower on the roof.

... Police at numerous places like the toll booths we often went through. The vigilante objective of dealing with local crime syndicates seems to be paying off as there has been capture or killing of some major crime figures recently. As a gringo tourist we do not figure as a target and feel quite secure in the midst of this.

... is an Indio Aztec Indian owned land at the very end of Playa Melaque on the far West end of the bay. They call it informal because it is a little primitive, meaning that they do not have the full hook ups that most other RV parks have, such as water and electric. ... us walked five blocks to pick up our race packets. The pre-race hubbub was pretty standard; all went well on that front. Race number, t-shirt, and timing chip in-hand, I went back to the hotel for a nap and then joined the group on a visit to the Veracruz Aquarium. It was impressive. With my kids in mind, I took a lot of photos.
