We stayed in Miraflores region of Lima which is right on the ocean. Ocean breeze was refreshing after the heat of Iguassu. Good food, people are helpful and friendly and happy to cater to tourists. Remember to negotiate Taxi fare!! No set price and it varies considerably by driver! Took a tour of the Huaca Pucllana. A nice initiation to ancient culture before visiting Machu Picchu.

Lima, a huge city with 8 million people on the Pacific Ocean. I don't think I would like to come back here. The air is dirty and my throat hurts from breathing the bad air! Tomorrow we go to the jungle! We went to a ancient city within Lima today. The guide said it never rains here. She was 12 years old before she experienced rain!! No rain, no snow, no thunder or wind, just sunny days. Crazy!

... that the mechanical problem would require a new aircraft so we all had to disembark. They gave out some meal vouchers, since we were now into the dinner hour, and we waited some more.

By the time we actually boarded the plane and were in the air (about 4 hours delayed), our daytime flight had turned into a redeye. And hilariously, it turned out after all that that it was the same airplane. Thankfully the kids ...
