... evening we went for a night turtle tour. We had dinner then boarded a boat at 7pm. We walked through Tortuguero town in the dark and continued walking along the edge of the beach for about 40 minutes via torchlight. We were lucky to have a famous guide called Castor Hunter (his father was the first turtle guide in the park). ... whilst being a little bit more expensive sounded a lot more fun than a whole day on windy mountain roads and as it turned out, was quicker too owing to it being more direct. We decided to embark on our cowboy adventure the following morning, the only problem was we couldn't find any hats.

... it was of course night here and the only light we had was the moon and very small flashlights. It is the season here for the sea turtles to come up out of the sea and up on the shore to lay her eggs. We walked along the beach for probably 45 minutes but saw no turtles. We sat on a log for a while to wait – sure enough a turtle came up out of the sea and made her way up the shore to pick a spot to lay her eggs.
