Pula turned out to be a real gem. We only picked it as a place to stay because it served to break the journey to Zadar. We had no idea it would prove to be so interesting.Maybe we should take some more left turns. We may discover other nuggets of gold on our journey.

In some ways this trip could be considered a complete and utter failure. We were threatened by one border agent, another attempted to extort cash from us, we didn't do anything even remotely related to the holiday, and we didn't really find any truffles.

Our last tasting stop was Kabola Winery with its beautiful hillside vineyards in riotous colors of crimson, gold and green. Martina, the winemaker/owner’s daughter, was our hostess. She had recently rejoined the staff after graduating from Dublin University and working for Google marketing in Ireland. Kabola’s fruity and full-bodied teran was worth purchasing and we did.
