We left New Orleans. this morning and are on our way to Alabama to visit old yachting friends that we had not seen in more than 10 years. They live close to the Tennessee border and as the distance was more then 800 km we did it over two days and arrived at Richard and Mary's place just after lunch on Saturday. Saturday, Angela Livingston, Gini Steinberg and I enjoyed walking around downtown Selma and even crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. We met Kelly, Meredith and Kathy at a Mexican Restaurant downtown for lunch.

As I drove through Alabama, I saw hundreds of yard sales. The state much have declared it a state-wide yard sale day! Larry joked that this was how most Alabama residents paid for their children's wedding.

... on all day until we reached Tuskegee. Only a portion of the trip was the rain hard enough to make us pull over but it was still annoying just the same. It's a shame, too, because some of these roads in southern Alabama are very, very pretty.

Got to go through Sylvester. I always love doing that because it's great fun for me to pull up to the a stop light, look at Lance and say "Sufferin Succatash" ...

One of the best things about a road trip is being able to stop along the way when you something catches your eye. As we were driving through Alabama, we spotted the NASA space center. It looked interesting so we stopped for a few hours to have a look around the museum and space centre, and learned all about the NASA program for exploration on the moon.
