Not quite to western standards

The first room I got had no toilet seat, which didn't seem to be a problem for the staff. It also had no wifi, which was critical to me. So I moved to another room right over the main desk, which is where the wifi router was located. And it had a toilet seat. A small room downstairs for the limited breakfast, which did have a few tasty items. But it is shared with the 'massage spa', so you can imagine how relaxing that would be. Decent location for business in Mataram, but definitely not for the average tourist. Staff was pleasant.

We awoke to our final day, not wanting to go home. We sorted the bill had breakfast and made preparations to leave. It is hard to believe we will be freezing cold again by the end of the day.
Putting it off until the last minute, the speaker was cranked up one more time and we headed out the door to the staff lined up and ready to say goodbye. They have all been so good - friendly, helpful without intruding on our holiday. They go about ...

Then came the hippies, whose children and now grandchildren morphed Ubud into a world-renowned centre for the body and mind crowd (think yoga, raw food and ritualistic cleansing) - a huge business revolving around the ever- expanding Bali Spirit Festival and a plethora of restaurants and centres.

And the new wave- investors and the real estate gold ...

... need to be preserved for the future.

The weather fairies must have realised we were in a water temple and decided to bless us with rain, lots and lots of rain. So it is time to retreat to the dry sanctuary of the car and leave the water temple, and hopefully the rain behind us. Next stop is Senggigi beach, one of the up and coming resort areas. But we are of course in the capital, and traffic is building and not really moving, time on the other hand is ...

Lombok, Indonesia: Bargain Bed Bugs

... Lifting the lid on a styrofoam box we picked the two best looking fish and whilst I swam, Sam watched as the lady lathered them in special Lombok sauce and grilled them over coals. Called from the ocean we perched on a bamboo shelf in the sand and enjoyed our very simple but incredibly tasty meal. With a clap of thunder echoing in the distance we jumped back on the bike and headed a little further north before the rain started to fall and we turned back. Despite ...
