The first room I got had no toilet seat, which didn't seem to be a problem for the staff. It also had no wifi, which was critical to me. So I moved to another room right over the main desk, which is where the wifi router was located. And it had a toilet seat. A small room downstairs for the limited breakfast, which did have a few tasty items. But it is shared with the 'massage spa', so you can imagine how relaxing that would be. Decent location for business in Mataram, but definitely not for the average tourist. Staff was pleasant.

Laundry day

We will do our Komodo tour departing from Mataram mostly because we have zero clean clothes and we are in big need of doing our laundry. Mataram doesn't offer too many sights but just enough to keep us busy for a day while it washes away. We are departing tomorrow for 4 days of sailing ending in Labuanbajo in Flores. We are not too sure what we are embarking ourselves on but surprises are part of the fun. ...

... up to the second tier called Tiu Kelep was much more challenging. There were points of steep incline, slippery uneven rocks to climb and strong currents to wade through. Mr guide was very helpful and offered to carry our shoes for us. He also really agile on his feet so would often end up miles ahead then realise we were lagging and have to wait. He was a lot more patient than I would have been. On the way up we passed others who had already seen it who assured us ...

Off to Senaru we go

... rip us off as always but we were having none of it (as always) ohhhh noooo ; so we made a little deal and off we went on the little half broken down bus filled with locals. It took a good two hours to finally get to Senaru, maybe even longer than that. On the downside it was still raining for ages and the car had no working windscreen wipers, no one could speak English and we didn't really know when we should be getting off and my ...

... as this is a dangerous act if you are a professional, here the guys were far from it. They looked like they were about to fall over into the bonfire and a couple of times they even let go off the fireballs. The first time it happened if went soaring over the crowd crashing into the bar roof, bouncing off and setting the volley ball net on fire. If the guy had let go a second earlier it would have hit some one. Everyone realised this and took one big step back. This ...

Day trip to Lombok

... capital of Lombok was to book our tickets for Sulawesi and to change some more money as we seem to be spending it like it's going out of fashion. We had planned to go to the airport in Lombok first to book the ticket. But soon found out that since last year they had closed the airport and built a new one about an hours drive from Mataram. Where we surprised? Not in the slightest! We then decided the best thing for it was to head to Mataram mall where all ...
