East coast's best kept secret
Today I arrive in Yamba, a small town on the east coast 1,5 hours south of Byron Bay. I'm getting a good vibe driving through this town. There's only one Backpackers in town runned by three brothers. One of them is Shane, a former surf champ. As soon as I check in, Shane's asking me to join his tour which starts in 5 minutes. It's only 10 bucks, worth a try I guess. After 10 weeks in Oz now I get sunburnt !!
We have decieded to stay 2 nights here in Yamba, its a lovely spot and a great beach within walking distance. In the morning we went for a long walk, picked up a couple of beers with the plan of spending the afternoon on the beach. We took a picnic on the beach, the beach must be a couple of kilometers long and apart from a couple with a dog we had it to ourselves. I LOVE YAMBA!!!!!!!!!
... but no standing up and looking cool. On my second attempt I went out with the guy who runs the hostel, Shane. He was ace (and very patient) and eventually got me catching my own waves and standing up on my board (albeit for a very short space of time). I am now a surf pro and will be retiring while I'm at my peak...!

We decided against the tour of the banana plantation and banana museum (?!) despite the promise of free tastings and chocolate bananas at the end, and stopped for a quick lunch instead before getting back in the car, again. We drove past and ruled out Emerald and Sapphire beaches because of torrential rain, and kept on going to a spot called Yamba.
