Good rates, comfortable, clean lodging with gorgeous period bathroom. Right next to the lake for sunset and sunrise photo op's, and within walking distance of Carthage town. Short drive to Red Oaks Village. Highly recommend this hotel - so does Gary Turner.....don't know who he is? Get on the road and find out....

... school starts to hit off my visit.
These last few days before I leave are going to be nearly insufferable. I don't want to wait to go to Italy, but I know that I have to. I need to be patient.

We enjoyed the rural ride through small, well kept farms and had a dinner repast at a local truck stop adjoining our hotel....ah the luxuries of the itinerant ...

It will be difficult for our guardian angel to top yesterday. The invite to the Pyles' home and Barto's chicken. Some of us started the Fourth off by joining some of the locals for a short cycle around Pittsburg. I broke off early from the ride to view the miner's memorial. The memorial is a tribute to the immigrants who settled Southeast Kansas and worked in the Weir-Pittsburg coal ...

Chanute to Pittsburg

We had beautiful, calm, weather for our ride of 68 miles to Pittsburg over mostly county roads. The farms were smaller and there are now more trees. At one point along the way we crossed over the Neosho River and passed the site of the first Indian mission and school in Kansas. The ...

It's Beginning to Become Real

... a week earlier than anticipated... I've worked out that I should be able to attend Thursday chapel at school right before leaving and, if practices have started, I should be able to be in attendance of at least one scholar's bowl practice before leaving the states.
We have been in contact with the family. Mariarosa prefers the name Rosie. Rosie is athletic and she loves to read, so I look forward to bonding ...
