Good rates, comfortable, clean lodging with gorgeous period bathroom. Right next to the lake for sunset and sunrise photo op's, and within walking distance of Carthage town. Short drive to Red Oaks Village. Highly recommend this hotel - so does Gary Turner.....don't know who he is? Get on the road and find out....

We had decided to alter our course and not go through Mardi Gras country...festivities would be over when we arrived. Looked like safer travel to connect again to I 35 and go down into Texas. We made reservations at a Good Sam Club park in Oklahoma City(OKC)and looked forward to hooking up to water and sewer and relaxing for a couple of days. Life is improving...the high in OKC was ...

Left St Louis crossed the Mississippi River not much corn growing here more beans. Wee are using a Garment GPS to get directions on where Route 66 is. The GPS is always trying to send us back onto the highway. Some times we come to. An intersection the Route 66 sign points left the GPS says go right, very easy to get lost. No one on the road for miles. The worry is getting turned around and ending up back in Chicago. Heading into Kansas ...

Lucrezia is very friendly and she has agreed to help me with my Italian if I help her with her English. I look forward to meeting Lucrezia, Gabriele, and the many other students at my new school!

    Pedaling on into Missouri

Today we rode off into the rolling hills of Missouri and encountered our first road grade greater than 10%. We expect to see a lot more of this in the coming days. Once again the weather gods smiled on us, the wind was minimal, there was no rain and a bit of cloud cover did not spoil our day. We enjoyed the rural ride through small, well kept farms and had a dinner repast at a local truck stop adjoining our hotel....ah the luxuries of the itinerant ...
