I tour the sanctuary and courtyard before making my way next door to the bell tower. I can’t go in, but as I walk up to it I hear a choir practicing inside. I feel so small standing in front of this giant building that has stood for more than 1600 years.

Today we set off from the Linssen Yachts base in Maasbracht heading south. We started in sun but the weather very quickly turned "proper Cornish" - horizontal rain with a touch of sleet! The following morning we will have an 8-hour bus ride to Tamatave/Toamasina, where the Africa Mercy is docked.

I'm pretty nervous for the adventure that lies ahead; but I am confident it will be an unforgettable and life-altering experience. ... and worked a while on getting the blog caught up. We are really far behind, as you can probably tell. Ted whipped up some mean sandwiches for lunch with german rolls, sliced deli meats and some awesome cheese. Ignoring the typical grey sky of a North German autumn we headed out to the spectacular town of Monschau which was established about 1000 years ago. On the way we passed through Holland and Belgium to reach this small German town, an experience that is incomprehensible to an Australian mindset.
