    ... but before too long it felt great. The water was about 70 degrees, a temperature the Pacific Ocean will never see, even in the middle of summer.

    The waves here were on the small side, likely because the water is shallow and the beach slopes very gently, not allowing large waves to build. I would guess it was close to 100 yards off shore before it started to get very deep. The water looked a bit brownish out to about this distance ...

    ... on the beaches of Daytona. A race course was actually set up on the beach. NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. began planning the track in 1953 in hopes of promoting the racing series. In November 1957, construction began on the 2 mile race track and was completed in late 1958, at a cost of $3 million. The Inaugural Daytona 500 was held in February 1959. Today, the race complex is undergoing a $400 million renovation that is dubbed Daytona Rising.

    We must recommend the DiVirgilio Bed & Breakfast. It was fantastic. We cannot give it enough stars! Not only were the accommodation wonderful but they actually made you feel like family!
