      ... depressing it was in contrast to the usually light and beautiful mosques. Maybe there's some deep and meaningful comment on Christianity there. Our hotel overlooks the Grand Canal and is very handy in terms of location. Fortunately it has a fabulous heated towel rail which we are making full use of.       The day started late as Nikki got in at 0600 and collapsed into bed!

      She started stirring around 1000 and managed to come out for a walk with us by 1030. We headed towards St Mark's Square. As expected, we were greeted by hordes of tourists in the square! It was always our intention to get here at 0700 so as to beat the crowds.

      ... on the fast train whizzing along at 250km/h on our way to Venice for a quick overnight stay before it’s on to Switzerland to stay with friends.       ... go to the loo, so we looked for a restaurant but of course nothing was open that early. We were directed to a WC and it cost €1.50 (nearly $2.00) but that was irrelevant at that stage. Problem was we left the ship without our change purse. We tried the change machine but it did not work.
