Flew in from Kota Kinabalu this morning, flight was at 7.50 for 1.25 hrs into Kuching, Sarawak. We asked our hotel in KK for a taxi to the airport at 6.00, and they say they will take us which was nice. We flew out of terminal 2 and we know how close to that one we are as the planes last night were going past our hotel window!! We stand in a queue …

Another bad start Kim is still not very well at all so we won't be going far. Breakfast alone again. Luckily we have brought some bits and pieces with us and hopefully these will help Kim recover. I still have a hotel to find so sit doing this for awhile. Can't go swimming because of the tattoo, not good planning so decide on a walk around the area …

... found my way to the pier I originally intended to go. There was a couple of large open air food courts by the river side, quite nice. Had a quick Chicken something (tasted nice) and it was off to the Intrepid joining meeting just as the heavens opened.
The Intrepid group consists of 1 couple, 3 guys and 5 girls. They are all well traveled with an average age of mid 20s. We are informed the Head Hunter trail ...

We stayed here as part of a tour but felt trapped by the location and lack of nearby alternative amenities. If you stay here you have to depend on the hotels occasional waterfront shuttles (or pay taxis), eat at their restaurant (good, but not Kuching's best), pay their outrageous laundry fees (if you need to refresh like we did) and hang out at the hotel in the evenings (shuttle stops running). Otherwise its tired and poorly maintained (needs paint, repairs, etc) but clean and provides good friendly service.

In my opinion the hotel cost is also high given the location, age, low level of maintenance and amenities. We liked being near the waterfront in a higher class hotel for the same rate better.
