Day 1: I get moving early and go across to the little cafe in the square for the BnB provided breakfast of tea or coffee and a croissant. They have free wifi which works. Yes! The BnB wifi is useless! After breakfast I head off to the boat pier and get a day ticket for the Middle lakes area. 15 euro and can be used to get to Villa Carlotta, Bellagio, Menaggio and back to Varenna. It's beautiful on the ...

It's so much more satisfying going by train than flying. It's not a cheap way to travel though. A Eurail pass would be the way to go if you're moving around a lot. Our final day in Bellagio was a chance to really potter around a bit like the locals. A slow start ...

... t eaten we went there for a quick bite. A tasting plate of meats, cheese and pizza and a glass of wine was exactly what we wanted. We then walked around the corner to have that long awaited coffee fix. It didn't disappoint. Magnificent.
Showed Sue around parts of Bellagio and some of the great shops. It was very busy but by 6pm, the tourists had left!! Had dinner and headed back to the apartment.
We are really looking forward to having a few days to relax and chill out. ...

... lake, we went up the mountain in a funicular to a small mountain village called Pigra (means Lazy) from where we walked mostly downhill to the lake again – officially you climb 90m and you descend about 660m.

Actually I was expecting, and prepared, to walk up onto the ridge above Pigra but we didn’t … (Perhaps another day.)

    The sky ...
