On entering Thailand by flight you receive an entry visa valid for 30 days. The EU countries have an arrangement that a further 15 days can be received by going over the border and re-entering. However remember that this essentially just a further 13 days, this might turn out to be quite important.
We were most surprised with the good quality of the dual carraigeway road from Chiang Rai ...

Crossing the Border

The two countries are separated by a small river, and a little (heavily guarded) bridge connects Mae Sai (Thai city) to Tachiliek (Myanmarese city). Bev is on the other side with a nice balcony. ...

We didn't have much time so after clearing customs, paying the fee to enter the country, and getting our temporary ID cards we shopped the market there fairly quickly. It is amazing how much more aggressive ...

... of being here. I choose two lovely jade and silver pendants (well I couldn't decide between them), they're small but beautiful and won't weigh me down, good decision I think.

I would love to see Burma properly and experience the country further, it's not really on my plans at the minute but you never know... I enjoyed my brief encounter with it anyway before setting off once more for Chiang Mai :)
