I know I always write the same...great weather, such a nice city, good food....but I have to say that Nice was a (very) big surprise for me, I can say that it is my favourite city in Europe (ok, number 2 after Lisbon). You have the mountains, the Cote d´Azur (when you see the water you know why the name is Cote d´Azur), the market with fresh vegetables, fruits, honey, oil, soap, you have great restaurants ...
Nice, Provence, France tilmanIt is Sunday and very wet and miserable here in Antibes. Quite a change from the glorious day we had yesterday. Ideal for computer work in fact... (Except that then things didn't pan out as planned and it is now Monday)
It wasn't my intention to have an entry before my departure but the response to my initial circular has been so overwhelming that I feel it merited an ...
Nice, Provence, France marianm... of Prince Albert - no joke), then walked along the harbour. The harbour had a full fairground atmosphere with rides, games, food, lights etc. We had the most delicious kebab for dinner from a stall :-) So posh!
We then followed the curve of the harbour to gape at the boats moored there. The amount of money people obviously have is just obscene!
Next we thought maybe we would have a go at trying to win ...
... Prince' (The Little Prince), a gorgeous and very well-known kids book which is also an allegory, was based there. So the monastery/hostel has little pics from the book everywhere and is generally really cute. They were so nice, had a pick up bus service into town (as the hostel is located on a mountain about 15min walk into town). The hostel had an awesome communal kitchen, but also came with a chef that we did not expect, and every night they offered 5euro pizzas or a roast and veggie ...
Nice, Provence, France dan-and-dee... shared the curry chicken with cilantro and coconut rice and it was really good. Today we are planning on hitting the beach, we are praying for good weather, it has been really nice so far, but we saw rain in the forecast. The weather forecasts haven't been accurate so far though. It feels like we have transferred to a beach vacation, and the scenery and atmosphere reminds me of what I have seen of Greece. It really doesn't feel like we are in France at all.
Nice, Île-de-France, France rachkrikke...
... full of villa houses and green paddocks with yellow flowers. everyone pretty much slept on the bus very tiring all this driving. Nice as it turns out is very Nice lol pardon the pun we had tea tonight at a local resturant, beef in red wine sauce with thank god - some vegies!!! and chocolate pastry filled with icecream yummo!!!
Nice, Provence, France aussiegirl83... from TJ who were going out and decided to meet them at a bar called Thor in Old Nice. Thor was pretty chill when we first got there, but as the night went on the place packed out, esp. upstairs where a great cover band was playing. Thor has provided the cheapest drinks by far as glasses of Stella Artois were only 3.50 a piece compare to the usual cost of around 7 euro a beer. We hung out at Thor for a while before trying to ...
Nice, France aragan... and there was a male stripper on a stage with a (fully clothed) girl. They explained to me that she was getting married and that this was "Chippendale" night at the boite and the reason that everything was American was that this is a very American concept to have strippers like this. A few minutes later, a second stripper took over dressed (at first) as a policeman. Let's just say that I'm pretty sure American Chippendales aren't quite as "open" as these were. Viva la France!
