... disappointed if there was nothing to see!!! Heraklion is good fun for a day but I wouldn't spend more than a day. You can cover most of it by walking around it. If the museum was open I guess you could spend all day in there! My mum would have definitely done ...

Today we spent the morning in Rethymnon, a lovely town about 60km East of Heraklion. We like Rethymnon way more than Heraklion. There is a lovely market in the old town and a beautiful little harbour area whit loads of restaurants by the water. Highly recommended!!! After spending a few hours in town we head for lunch in a little village by the sea, called Ayia Gallini. Food is nice and prices are good too. A nice place to stop for a bite. Next step, ...

Needless to say the trip back with Chris and Daniela is much more successful and we find the hotel first time, and arrive back just in time for a couple of aperitifs and dinner in the main restaurant, which is a buffet style affair, as the only other restaurant open tonight was the Italian :-) Off to bed early as looking forward to some more open top driving across the island to the quieter south ...

... and simple. We're both knackered from the early start and decide to have a little nap back at the hotel. 4 hours later we wake up..and it's time for food again! If you're in Heraklion for a short stay, like us, this is a great place for a stop over, with a roof terrace where you can drink and dine, overlooking the harbour. We noticed that nobody is in a rush in this town, which is nice ( Tracy Likes this too) its very relaxed and all of the local people are very nice and more than willing to help you out. Everyone speaks English, so finding out information about certain things or asking advice on restaurants etc is really easy.
It is also really safe here. Its very common for travelers to come to this town solo ...
