... gone mental over Game of Thrones. One painting, not far from the front door is of a dude being skinned alive. For those art enthusiasts it was the "Judgement of Cambyses" by Gerard David. Next to it was the "Allegory of peace in the lower countries" by Pieter II Claeissens. The ladies had their puppies out all over the place in that one, the gents were modestly covered of course. I noted those two down as examples in case you want to google them, but seriously, boobies, ...

... and got talking with a lovely young couple. We had a beer outside at a bar in the first sunshine of the day and had a great time discussing our various travel experiences. I really didn't want to leave, it was a lovely spot and I think wandering about in the evening would have been great with the historic buildings lit up - I regret not booking accommodation here. Matt and Megan offered me their couch for the night but I reluctantly declined. ...

... between Dutch and French. In practicality though, Brussels is really a French speaking city. Bruges is known as the “jewel of flanders” and is officially Dutch speaking. The south of Belgium is French speaking and is known as Wallonia. There is also a German speaking part in the east. I think the language gives you a good idea of how much Belgium is a country of states rather than a single country with a single history.
