... off, armed with a map, mr Google (because he knows all) and a sense of adventure. Getting out of the city was only partially more difficult than we expected. My adelaide naivety expects all roads are straight, haven't seen a straight road in Europe since we arrived, so taking a short cut though actually results in a long cut that takes you across town, through another city, before returning just after sunset.......I digress. ... our Bruges experience. She even let us borrow her bikes for a day, and gave us a lift to the train station on our last morning – bless her! We hadn’t found an appropriate gift, so instead I left a pair of earrings that I had bought in Portugal and a tin of foie gras with truffles we had bought at a market that we were going to take home (we will buy another tin somewhere else!).

The house was just outside the city ring road, but within a 10 minute walk ...

... more then back to room for a short nap. Few hours later we took a walk to dinner. Yelp recommended Breydel de Coninck . We shared a cheese croquette that was so yummy . Glass of wine, Cristi had scampi with a delicious saffron cream sauce, I had the mussels. Evidentially they are not in season, so they are small. They tasted fine" needed salt. Back to room for a good nights ...

... and we're back in the main square, Market Square, and decide to take the horse and buggy where my hubby then remembers most of what we did last visit. At the end of our buggy ride, we ask where is the best place to get mussels as the thing to eat here are mussels and frites or fries. He points us to Simon Stevin square and we find Poules Moules or Chicken Mussels and have our dinner.


There must be 40 mussels in the pot that hubby gets to ...

... of the 18th century pharmacist, I headed back to the apartment to get packed and ready for the 4:50am train ride the next morning. Feeling peckish, I stepped out to post some postcards and stopped by a cheese shop at the Christmas markets- had a chat to the girl there - they make their own cheese and then sell it around Bruges.
