... Vicki likened the hotel to a motel on Nepean highway in rosebud. Not far wrong. Even though the beach was a fair walk in the heat I took off back to the beach for a lovely swim while the others rested in air con when it got started again. After a slow start on Sunday - I missed breakfast due to jetlag issues - we decided to get on the train and go to the ancient Greek temples at Paestum.

But our tummies did not agree, so instead we took a short walk around Salerno to their main church, or Duomo. It's not as fancy as the ones we've seen in Florence, or Siena, or Rome, but it was venerable, aged and weathered. The bell tower started ringing the call to mass as ...

Francesco's mother, Lena made us a delicious breakfast of pastries, ham and cheese, juices and cappuccinos while we waited for Francesco to arrive in his car to take us touring. The 50 minute ride to the Vannulo mozzarella farm was enlightening as we chatted continuously with Francesco about family life, customs, politics, etc in this part of Italy. He was grateful for the opportunity to practice using his English and was a ...
