Since our first trip to Italy we have wanted to climb Mt Vesuvius. It seems so easy from the guide books and internet sites. Just drive up the volcano, buy a ticket, and a short walk and there you are. There are other things that need to be considered, such as weather. Our first abortive attempt was in March of 2013. It was a beautiful sunny morning and just 1.5 hours to Vesuvius. Today is the day as we head towards Naples. The closer we get the more it clouds up. ...

... stocked up on junk and were off to the train to find the cooking class! We traveled two stops hoped off and tried to find our way, we were lucky enough to be given directions from a lady who spoke good English. Next to the hotel where we needed to sign in was a cafe, about 4 Italians were eating, drinking and talking loudly in Italian. After sitting out in the cold and a little rain it was time ...

Tour showed houses, temples, stadium, pools, fast food counters, brothels- included were "directions to the brothels". Saw many artifacts, including casted people who were perished in the ...

After a big day out to Pompeii and Herculaneum, we hopped on the "metro" 2 stops to the archelogical museum to see all the treasures of both cities. Again another trait of Naples, cash please. Even the museum only took cash. Spent a couple of hours in the museum although many of the rooms were closed, a disappointment. Lunch and then another walk through the city and shopping for Mags.

... to the brothel (where woman have only been able to visit to view this building in the last few years due to tapu) – all along cobble streets with carriage impressions in the rock. All this with Mt Vesuvius a constant backdrop to this amazing place.

It was hard to believe it was so old due to the remarkable condition it is in – in some places rooves have been restored to give visitors an impression of the state of the buildings, but ...
