Art and beer

A travel blog entry by howardstein

... Bruges in 1175 AD it turned to liquid! And on to an archeological dig of a castle from 1300 years ago, a church with a sculpture of Mary and Jesus by Michelangelo, the only brewery in Bruges (that brews 'strong Henry' dark beer with a 14% alcohol content), an art museum that for such a small city has an amazing display of primitive Flemish painters, and a former hospice from 1400 AD that is now a museum of Brugge's most famous painter - Hans Memling. Sore feet

It was a busy day, as we packed in every tourist attraction Bruges has to offer. We started the day with climbing the belfry, which was only difficult in how steep and narrow it got at the top. The adventure begins... Our flight left Fresno at 5:45 am on July 25 and we arrived in Brussells, Belgium just after 7:00 am on July 26 and hopped on a train for Brugge. After a very long flight and a time difference of 8 hours, I felt (and probably looked like) a zombie! The fatigue was quickly forgotten when we reached the historical heart of the city, Markt. The square is lined with regal buildings, ornate and gilded. The city square buildings are ...
