Why is Iselia smiling?

Her efforts to preserve the culture and heritage of the Mapuche people have rewarded her with the capability to help support her family and provide better for her children than she had. Having left Temuco a couple weeks ago, we want to dedicate this blog to the Mapuche people, their struggle against poverty and what Fundación Chol-Chol is doing to help.

... in Dan's backpack -- good thing because Heidi's was taken). We wanted a unique, life-changing experience when embarking on this journey, and instances like this just help to put everything a bit more in perspective.

Now, there’s so much more, but this is turning into the longest blog by far… But, a note to all -- if you want an authentic Chilean experience, (despite the previous paragraph) we highly recommend Temuco.

... dans la région de l'Araucanía, elle fut mise à la retraite dans les années 70, et laissée de facto à l'abandon pendant 20 ans. Et puis un beau jour le Museo décida de la remettre en état de rouler avant que cela ne devienne simplement impossible, et le plus fort est qu'ils y sont éventuellement arrivés! Alors ces quelques dernières années elle a retrouvé les rails et le grand air, et refait occasionellement un petit voyage.

... to every imaginable attraction in the city (including the football/soccer stadium), and free, so everything was sorted out at once. Amongst other places it stopped at the Museo Ferroviario Pablo Neruda (he was almost a native son), so here you go more pictures of trains! After that I went to the only museum not included in the tour, which I didn't find interesting, and that was all really. I went to buy a ticket out of there for the next morning, and my day was over.

... received more rain in the three days we were there than Las Vegas receives in a year. And every single drop was greedily soaked up by the rich volcanic soil and lush, dense vegetation. Thanks to 8th grade World Geography, I know that the phenomenon of very fertile, wet land separated by much drier land by a mountain range such as is the case between Chile and Argentina is known as the rain shadow effect.
