... I spent many a sleepless night stressing about the prospect of running out of money and having to go home. Here, my qualifications meant nothing. My work experience meant nothing. I felt useless. I felt stupid. I felt like a failure.

My saving grace came in the form of a phone call from the most Western point of Vancouver. On a peninsula out by the ocean. The endowment lands. UBC. The University of British Columbia.

... in Bellingham. It is a nice facility that has covered parking slots with electric hookups. That is important to us because we have food in our refrigerators and freezers that we didn't want to throw out had we not found a storage unit with power.

Then off we went to Vancouver, BC. The drive was short, other than a traffic backup at the border crossing. Why is it that border officers have to be so stern?

... The ride was smooth and only took 10 minutes.

Our first stop was the 2 grizzly bears - Grinder and Coola. They were playing in the water of their large 5 acre enclosure. When we were here 12 years ago they were just cubs. They are significantly bigger now. Both of us took lots of photos - surprise, surprise. The keeper of the bears gave a talk which was very interesting.
