Yet another instance of great friends starts my time at the lake. Upon hearing of my plans for this southern journey, Miss Heather Smith immediately rolled out that southern hospitality and invited me to stay at her family's lake house up at Lake Burton in Northeastern Georgia and enjoy some solitude. Thank you Heather! My few days here at Lake Burton, right up in the Chatahoochie National Forest, have been filled ...

Fished the Tuck today. It was not my best day, but the Tuck is always a great place to fish. It was Saturday morning and just finding a parking place was a challenge. However, by 12:30 it was starting to clear out so there was room to fish my favorite spots. Barb went into Franklin, NC with some knitters from our camping group and had fun touching all the yarns. What was supposed to be a 2 hour drive from Atlanta turned out to be 4 hours for us. We ...

Leaving the KOA , we traveled to the tip of SC , Lake Hartwell , to visit Peggy and Chuck Herda. Had a nice lunch with them, and lots of laughs- they are doing great in their beautiful home on the lake. Once we left there, we drove to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where we'll explore for two ...

... it was a fairly easy day and fairly cold, so we didn't want to stop hiking when we reached the campground at 11 miles. We climbed Mount Albertson, which is one of the steepest parts of the trail. It was almost like rock climbing at points, having to scramble with our hands and haul ourselves up. I had a couple of almost-falling moments, where I windmilled my arms and tried to keep my pack from dragging me backward before jamming my trekking poles down. On the way up it ...
