Another experience stands out as well, this time after we reached our beach destination, when we were invited to stop for a beer at one of the many beach side "beer cooler" restaurants. This is not an exaggeration. Some local entrepreneur sets up a cooler of beer and other alcohol options, a couple of large umbrellas, and a bunch of plastic stacking chairs, and presto! It's an afternoon party gathering on the beach, where ...

Amazing view though down into the caldera, to Mount Bromo smoking away below us and across to Mount Semeru, the tallest volcano in Java, which occasionally puffed out clouds of ...

We did rent a scooter to go in to town and pick up some essentials, but the bloody thing wouldn't start. So it was back to sitting in the sun ukulele in hand. Quote of the day:- Kirstie " There's defiantly more raping going on in the winter" ( Because of daylight saving time) I GIVE UP!!! ...

... in half the time! The driver told us that it was school holidays in Indonesia and that a lot of locals headed for Kuta. It was also a Saturday, the busiest day of the week. When we arrived at the Sun Island Hotel we were very pleased with it. It was one of the newest hotels in the area with lots of modern amenities, as well as being near to the sea and the main shopping centre. We were impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel and the pool as well as ...
