    ... but our suitcases are ready for the airport, whether we are or not.

    We'll catch an early flight from Sacramento aboard a tiny plane to Los Angeles (a small American Eagle "commuter" jet). From there, we'll fly to Miami and an airport hotel. We're not escaping the cold any longer. It was unseasonably warm today as our drought continues and worsens. Miami will be more humid, but it won't be warmer.

    ... We don’t have that as much in the Western world. Or at least not in most US cities and towns. Families are dispersed across the country. Only nuclear family members live in a household and consist of usually 2-4 people tops. Families are spread out even within the same city. We have more space and privacy, but we’re also more silo-ed and are often seeking a deeper sense of purpose and companionship.
