Copper Canyon to Chihuahua

The Copper Canyon Trail is an immense 15 hour train journey from Los Mochis through to Chihuahua, the route is 418 miles long and takes in 37 bridges and 86 tunnels and reaches nearly 8000 feet above sea level. The route crosses the 'Mexican Grand Canyon' which is much larger than it's American counterpart but does not have the same vantage points which makes the Grand Canyon so popular and well known.

We left our hotel at 5am ...

... hours of mountainous driving, the city appeared before me, signaled immediately by the surprise appearance of Walmart. Not what I was expecting. Anyway, after a night in the car, and 10 hours of intense driving, a shower was odorously needed. I wanted a cheap hotel to crash in, but for that I needed the internet. I also needed dinner. And as if Chihuahua was reading my mind...and my stomach...a Denny's appeared ...

... especially after speaking to the police, I found myself lucky that I hadn't been injured or even killed. From my discussion with the police, they had said that if I was Mexican, they probably wouldn't have even thought twice about killing me, and that I should be extremely thankful that nothing worse had happened.

Still is hard to think about things in that way, but it certainly brought me back to reality, with a pretty horrendous bump....
