... it to Hatajuku (it took a little under 2 hours and was close to a 4 mile hike). A group of Japanese college students were also waiting for the bus. They quickly made room for Will and I on the lone bench then entertained us with dancing and songs while we waited for the bus. They also kindly offered for us to board first (we declined), but insisted Will and I take the one remaining seat. The bus ride passed quickly. Back in Hakone Yumoto we enjoyed snacks and a couple ...

This morning we head off to Hakone, about 80 min train ride away from Tokyo, to stay in a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan). Hakone is located in Japan's Fuji National Park known for hot spring resorts and Mt Fuji views. At least we are told there are good views of Mt Fuji, not that it ever made an appearance for us. ... for all over town. As a geologist, I picked the Yamanashi Gem Museum. It was another waste of money. The exhibit was not anything unique to the area and was a let down compared to many other free exhibits I have seen. Oh well. I then walked over the bring, enjoyed the sunset over Lake Kawaguchiko and enjoyed a nice walk around the lake.
The day ended with me trying to figure out how to get back to my hotel. I met a random American girl ...

... our 'regional' train to Hakone. From the station it was about a half hour drive to the cable car, not unlike driving the windy roads of Mt Buffalo. Unfortunately the cable car was not running but we were happy with our day's activities. First to the shrine where the cedar trees were huge. After wandering through the main hall we were fortunate to see a traditional wedding party and then some cute little kids all decked out in traditional garb. Kaoru explained that at age 3 both ...
