Fist was Kinkakuji or the Golden castle. It is actually covered by a thin layer of golden foil. It used to be a guest house of a local shogun named Ashikaga Yoshimirsu. It was later converted into a shrine. However, originally build at the end of 14th century, it was accidently burnt down by a monk about 60 years ago. It has been rebuilt and is now an exact replica of the original.

... so there was plenty to share. Simo had decided she would cook pasta for everyone, but she put too much spaghetti in the pan and it burned to the bottom whilst it was boiling. So we all ate smoky pasta (ugh!!). Of course it was Jonnys fault for buying cheap Turkish pasta!

The rest of the evening, and most of the morning, went according to plan though. Thanks to all!!!

Today Simo and I decided to visit the southern area of Kyoto; especially around Tofukuji - which is supposed to be another very good area to see the autumn leaves.
